Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026
This policy describes, honestly and specifically, what RenoMate collects and why. It has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Before this site is used by real members of the public, we recommend having it professionally reviewed to ensure full UK GDPR compliance.

Who we are

RenoMate ("we", "us") operates renomateuk.com, a platform connecting customers with local tradesmen. You can contact us at contact@renomateuk.com about anything in this policy, including requests relating to your personal data.

What we collect

If you create a customer account, we collect: your name, email address, password (stored as a secure hash, never in readable form), and optionally your address and phone number.

If you create a trader account, we collect: your name, email address, password (hashed), trade, area covered, and any optional details you add — company name, bio, skills, years of experience, availability, postcode (used to power "Near Me" search), a profile photo, and portfolio photos of your work.

When you use the platform, we also store: messages sent between customers and traders, job quotes and their status, and payment records processed through Stripe (see below).

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe, not by us directly — we never see or store your full card details. Stripe's own privacy policy governs how they handle payment data; you can read it at stripe.com/privacy. We do store a record that a payment was made, its amount, and which job it relates to, for accounting and dispute-resolution purposes.

Why we collect it

  • To create and run your account
  • To let customers and traders find each other and communicate
  • To process payments and keep accurate records for tax and accounting purposes
  • To resolve disputes between customers and traders if they arise
  • To keep the platform secure and prevent misuse

Who we share it with

We share payment information with Stripe, as needed to process payments. We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal profile data; records of completed transactions may be retained for a period as required for tax and accounting purposes, even after account deletion.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data — you can update most of your own details directly from your account dashboard
  • Delete your account and personal data — you can do this yourself from your account settings, or by emailing us
  • Object to how we process your data, or ask us to restrict it

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@renomateuk.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.

Cookies and local storage

RenoMate does not use tracking or advertising cookies. We use your browser's local storage to keep you logged in between visits (a session token) — this is functional, not used for tracking or advertising, and is removed when you log out.

Security

Passwords are never stored in plain text. Access to the admin panel is password-protected. That said, no system is ever 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of data transmitted to the platform.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated by email where possible.
